Welcome to Ep. 14 of Mindsnack – today’s newsletter comes from a video I saw of Alex Hormozi. He brought up a powerful quote from his wife, Leila:

🗣️ "Fear is a mile wide and an inch deep."

Think about all the fears you had growing up. Here’s a list of common ones that usually disappear once you actually do them:

  • Talking to new people 🤝: You imagine it’ll be super awkward, but it often turns into a great conversation.

  • Riding a bike without training wheels 🚴: It feels like you're going to fall every time, but once you get the hang of it, there's no looking back.

  • Jumping off the diving board 🌊: It looks terrifying from up there, but after the first jump, you’re ready for more.

  • Getting a shot at the doctor’s office 💉: The buildup is the worst part; the actual shot is over before you know it.

  • Asking someone out ❤️: The fear of rejection is real, but taking that leap usually teaches you it’s not the end of the world.

  • Public speaking 🎤: It feels like everyone’s judging you, but once you start, it’s easier to manage and often even empowering.

  • First day of school or a new job 🎒: The nerves are intense, but by the end of the day, you wonder what you were so worried about.

Most of these fears feel massive initially, but once you dive in, you realize they aren’t as big as they seem.

If fear is something holding you back at this point in time, you have to remind yourself of all the times when you went and did something you were afraid of. Think back to those moments – the ones where the fear seemed overwhelming, but once you stepped into it, the fear faded away. You got through it, and you grew stronger because of it.

The next time you’re faced with fear, whether it’s a new challenge, a big decision, or stepping outside your comfort zone, remember: you’ve done this before, and you’ll do it again. The fear is never as deep as it feels. Take the leap – you’ve already proven you can. 💪
