Don’t Overly Focus On The Outcome

I’ve been reading Rick Rubins’ “The Creative Act”, which is a great book. This morning I saw him on my Instagram and thought it was a sign to share… He said… “Don’t do things just because you’re going to get something for it, that’s not why we do things… Do what’s interesting to you. Follow what’s interesting… don’t worry about the outcome… we can never predict the outcome… Follow your own inner guide”.

When we do things based on the outcome we

  1. Skip steps.

  2. Get overly reliant on results which can cause us to quit.

  3. Do things that don’t resonate with us because the outcome seems great.

So next time you have a decision to make don’t base it on the outcome… base it on your gut feeling and whether or not the process will fulfill you.

The "End of History Illusion": You’re Not Done Evolving

By the time people reach their 20s or 30s, they often start to believe that their most significant self-development is behind them. This phenomenon is known as the End of History Illusion.

We tend to think we've learned everything we need from work, school, and life in general. This mindset can cause us to underestimate our potential for future growth, leaving us far short of what we could ultimately achieve.

But the truth is, personal development shouldn’t stop at any age. We need to continue to evolve day in and day out.

Although we’ve naturally learned the life lessons needed to survive, we must consciously seek out new challenges, embrace change, and remain open to growth.

If you’re one of those people who think they already know most of what they need to know, it’s time to start reframing that into a mindset of continuous growth.

If you’re interested in reading more about this topic there’s a specific book on it called the illusion of end.
